Color Stories: Creating a Palette with Purpose
Since I first started designing, Iβve had a natural knack for creating color palettes that just work. Back then, I didnβt know anything about color theory or formal rulesβI simply followed what looked beautiful together and what made each flower shine. Over time, Iβve come to realize that this instinct is one of my favorite parts of floral design.
One of the things I love most is discovering a new ingredientβwhether itβs a delicate filler, a striking foliage, or a multicolored bloomβand finding creative ways to make it stand out. Sometimes itβs about pairing unexpected colors together. Other times, itβs about pulling a subtle hue from a single stem and echoing it elsewhere in the arrangement. That kind of intentional layering brings depth and harmony, even to the most whimsical designs.
Even the most βbasicβ colorβlike whiteβis never really just white. It can lean green, cream, blush, or bright snow. Understanding those subtle undertones helps me blend ingredients more thoughtfully and create arrangements that feel cohesive, not chaotic.
Thereβs something incredibly satisfying about finding the perfect shade or texture that ties everything together. Whether Iβm designing for a wedding, a special event, or a Blush & Bloom Box, my goal is always the same: to tell a story with color. One that feels fresh, balanced, and rooted in natureβs own palette.
Because at the end of the day, floral design is more than matching colorsβitβs about making each bloom feel seen.
