HOW TO STYLE LIVED IN HAIR

I finally did a picture tutorial to how I curl my hair. This method is the main method I use to do my hair. I prefer to have that lived in, messy waves look rather that perfectly styled curls. To start I just usually use freshly washed hair, but might add some dry shampoo to give it some texture because dirty hair holds a curl much better than freshly washed!

I usually use my NuMe 1 inch curling wand, looks like they have gone down in price too! You can easily use a curling iron, just don’t use the clamp part, wrap around the iron. I use a wide tooth comb to comb my hair and make sure it is knot free. Then I separate my hair into 3 sections as I curl. I will part my hair just above my ear, all the way across my head. I just pin or tie the rest of the hair into a bun on to keep them separate. If you have thicker hair you may need to take a smaller section.

I take about a one inch section of hair—again depending on the thickness of the hair you may need to take more or less.

I take that one inch section and wrap it away from my face around the wand. I hold the ends of the hair and keep about an inch or so off the wand. This helps it look like waves rather than ringlets. I only hold it on my hair for about 5 seconds sometimes a little less, but never more than that. Not trying to fry my hair off!

I release the curl, but I DO NOT touch it! I want to let it set. (I leave all my curls alone until about 10 minutes after I am done curling!) I move throughout that section curling my hair away from my face. You can opt to alternate the curls, which I will do sometimes, but lately I have been going the same direction.

Once I finish the whole bottom section, I part my hair for the second section, just above my temple. Again depends on the thickness of you hair. This is just how I do it. I tie up the remains uncurled hair to keep it separate from the section I am currently curling.

I take a one inch section again. This section is hard because it’s where my baby hairs and they are still relatively short and annoying. The section looks thicker than one inch at the top, but as you can see it isn’t very thick once you get to the bottom.

I curl the hair away from my face and keep the end of the hair out of the curl. Still hold for no more than 5 seconds. I continue to do this until the whole second section is curled. DON’T comb or run your fingers through the curl!

I do the final section, which is the very top section of hair. Same thing, just about an inch or so of hair, wrapped around the wand, away from my face.

I work my way through this section, which has the least amount of hair out of all the sections. Just curling away from my face.

This is the view from the other side, but same thing. Curl away from my face and leave the ends out.

Once I have curled all my hair, I let it set for about 5-10 minutes once I have sprayed it with some hair spray. I leave my hair alone and don’t touch it. You can finish up your makeup or figure out what accessories your outfit needs. Whatever you want to do to pass the time! You can see how tight the curls are when freshly curled.

After 5-10 minutes, I use my fingers to comb through my hair and loosen up the curls.

You can see the curls have loosened up a lot once I have run my fingers through it. I curled it with a part, but I run my fingers through my hair during the day and mess the part up. I like what it does to the curls and adds lots of volume.

Throughout the day it looks more and more like beachy waves, exactly how I want them to look!

There you have it! An easy tutorial to how I curl my hair! Try it and let me know what you think! I am always here if you have any questions!
